Documents required to enter the country

 

 

 

To enter the country it is necessary to have a current passport and a tourist visa or tourist card issued in the port of origin by your carrier. All tourists from Central, South America and Europe, except Germany, Spain and The United Kindom, need to fill this requirement.

In the Island you will find regional, national and international newspapers. There are five TV channels and seven a.m. or f.m. radiostations.

There is a good postal service and telegraphs, fax, telex and e-mail service, and international telephone connections to the whole world, just dialing 122.

Currency

 

 

The Venezuelan currency is the Bolívar, but shops accept US Dollars at the current exchange rate (480 bolivars per dollar as of March 1997). Other foreign currency fluctuates according to this. Any currency can be exchanged at banks and money exchangers. Traveller checkes and credit cards are all honored.

How to arrive

By Air:

Twenty minutes away from Porlamar is the Santiago Mariño International Caribbean Airport, where there arrive flights from both, cities from Venezuela and from all over the world. National and international conections are easy. You can also get there from Caracas´ Simón Bolívar International Airport, in a flight that takes only 35 minutes.

By Sea:

From mainland Venezuela, you can get there by ferry from the cities of Puerto La Cruz and Cumaná, arriving at Punta de Piedras Port; and from Carúpano arriving at El Morro Port Terminal, southeast of Porlamar. Travel time is about four hours in each case.
